Los huevos o las proglotides desprendidos se eliminan del huesped con las heces.

Los cerdos o los seres humanos se infectan al ingerir huevos embrionados o proglotides gravidas.

Los huevos se convierten en oncosferas, que penetran en la pared intestinal.

Las oncosferas circulan hasta los musculos y otros organos y se convierten en cisticercos.
