Jean C. Monty is one of the leading figures in the Canadian business world. A brilliant and talented administrator, he is one of Montréal’s most ardent promoters and ambassadors, in Quebec and throughout the country.

Jean C. Monty is a man of action, a visionary and a builder who is always eager to take on a challenge. Indeed, his career path is a perfect example of his determination. He began his career with Bell Canada in 1974, occupying several positions within the BCE group. Before joining BCE, he was vice-chairman of the board of directors and chief executive officer of Nortel Networks, which he joined in October 1992 as president and chief operating officer. One year later, he was appointed president and chief executive officer of the corporation. On October 1, 1997, Jean C. Monty went to BCE as president and chief operating officer and a member of the board of directors. He also served as a chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Bell Canada and chairman of the board of Teleglobe.

He is one of the driving forces behind one of the most respected and admired telecommunications corporations in North America. Jean C. Monty’s talents as a builder and visionary are recognized throughout the Canadian business community. In 1997, he was named Canadian CEO of the year and recently, a major Quebec-based economic magazine ranked him first among Quebec’s 50 top corporate executives.

A member of the boards of directors of Bombardier and several corporations within the BCE group, Jean C. Monty also devotes time to socioeconomic and cultural organizations such as the Canadian Council of Chief Executives, where he serves as a member of the executive committee, the National Gallery of Canada and the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation, for which he served as president.

Jean C. Monty was named to the Order of Canada in October 1994, in recognition of his contribution to the business world and his community involvement.

He holds a bachelor of arts degree and a master’s degree in economics from the University of Western Ontario and a master’s in business administration (MBA) from the University of Chicago.

Jean C. Monty was inducted into the Academy of Great Montrealers in the Economic category in 2000 and was named a Commander of the Ordre de Montréal in 2016.
