1. Ann Darrow - Naomi Watts (King Kong 2005)

The Predecessors

Ann Darrow is of course the human protagonist of the King Kong movies, a beautiful actress who tames the titular beast, as was originally played by Fay Wray in the classic 1933 movie.

The 1976 remake technically doesn't feature the Darrow character, though Jessica Lange's Dwan - that's not a typo, by the way - is in every way that matters the exact same character.

Dwan is an attractive blonde actress who Kong falls for, and so for all intents and purposes, they're one and the same.

Third Time's The Charm...

Ann returned in name for Peter Jackson's lavish 2005 remake, with Naomi Watts cast to play the part.

Watts' acting accomplishments notwithstanding - namely a recent Oscar nomination under her belt at the time - she resembled every bit the classical ingenue beauty Ann was originally supposed to be.

And thanks to Jackson's extended - albeit eventually bloated - runtime, Ann felt like far more of a fleshed-out character than she ever did in either the 1933 or 1976 movies.

Watts and Jackson took a fairly shallow role and expanded Ann into a fully-formed human being. Imagine that.
