Alsou is a Eurovision success story. At sweet 16, she stormed to second place in the 2000 contest. Since then, she’s released nine albums and won countless gongs, including an MTV EMA and a World Music Award. And of course things came full circle when she co-hosted the 2009 contest in Moscow. All that, and she’s just barely entered her thirties.

The woman continues to go from strength to strength, as evidenced by her latest release “Tam, gde net tebya” (Where There Is No You). The track sees the “Solo” singer touch on the subject of love, or rather the pain it can cause. Lyrics such as “Where is there no you, it’s always dark, there is a blizzard, there is always winter….” illustrate the loneliness that can result from separation. Without Alsou’s love, her partner has lost everything. As she “prays to the sky” during the instrumental bridge, the melody of the song takes root, and gives the Russian pop princess a key change opportunity to elevate her vocal performance…. and boy does she deliver!

She takes things even further with the music video.

Alsou “Tam, gde net tebya” Official Music Video

The video is not embeddable. Click HERE to watch on YouTube.

Shot against a variety of nature’s most beautiful backdrops, the video allows the singer to become a sort of new-age Mother Earth. We see her weather a storm, go horseback riding along a desolate beach, and much more. Although she remains the only human subject in the clip, her presence fills the screen. At the same time, it communicates the emptiness of the lyrics.

And we cannot ignore her wardrobe choices! The lady is bringing us some proper mythical glamour. We could easily imagine her mingling with the legendary queens of lore. She also knows how to werk those angles. If we didn’t know any better, we’d almost say she was canvassing for a retroactive ENTM coronation.

This is easily one of Alsou’s best efforts for a while. What do y’all think?
