Chilly conditions Sunday for Maryland's annual Bay Bridge Run

ANNAPOLIS Md. (7News) — Runners braved chilly conditions for Sunday's annual Bay Bridge 10k Run on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Annapolis, Maryland.

The race takes place just once a year and gives runners a chance to go over the 4.35-mile-long bridge that is usually closed to pedestrians.

Race organizers announced that the non-profit Chesapeake Conservancy signed on as a charity partner for the event. Proceeds will be donated towards the creation of the Chesapeake National Recreation Area.

“We are excited about the opportunity to partner with the Bay Bridge Run and support a unique outdoor activity. The Bay Bridge Run is a one-of-a-kind experience that allows participants to enjoy a national treasure, the Chesapeake Bay,” Chesapeake Conservancy’s Director of Individual and Major Gifts J.T. Dean said. “Let’s run and walk together to race to National Park Service status for the Chesapeake Bay!”

The race's first wave began at 7 a.m. at Northrop Grumman in Annapolis and will finish on Kent Island.
