Mauritania: Threats Stall the Dakar Rally

French officials have canceled the 30th annual Dakar Rally because of recent violence in Mauritania. The announcement follows the deaths of four French tourists in Mauritania on Dec. 24 and three Mauritanian soldiers on Dec. 28, and several bombings in Algiers, Algeria.
