Dispatching Agents in Electronic Institutions2010 •
In Electronic Institutions [1], agents may be prevented from achieving their goals if other participants are not present in a given scene. In order to overcome this situation we propose the addition of an institutional agent in charge of dispatching agents to scenes through a participation request protocol. We further propose to endow this agent with the capability of instantiating new agents, thus providing grounds for a self-optimization of the system. Advantages of our proposal are illustrated with the implementation of an ...

Background Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a significant public health problem, affecting approximately 7% of the general population and 13–18% of the combat Veteran population. The first study using acupuncture for PTSD in a civilian population showed large pre- to post-treatment effects for an empirically developed verum protocol, which was equivalent to group cognitive behavior therapy and superior to a wait-list control. The primary objective of this study is to determine both clinical and biological effects of verum acupuncture for combat-related PTSD in treatment-seeking US Veterans. Methods This is a two-arm, parallel-group, prospective randomized placebo-controlled clinical trial. The experimental condition is verum acupuncture and the placebo control is sham (minimal) acupuncture in 1-h sessions, twice a week for 12 weeks. Ninety subjects will provide adequate power and will be allocated to group by an adaptive randomization procedure. The primary outcome is change...

This paper aims at proposing a versatile Pothole Detection System which assists the driver in avoiding potholes on the roads, by giving prior warnings. The basic idea of this system is to detect the pothole at a distance from which driver is driving the vehicle, to alert the driver if pothole is arriving in the way to reduce the speed of the vehicle or take another path. This paper presents a detailed description of the system based on image processing developed to process and analyze the dataset captured using the camera mounted on the car that gives high efficiency and accuracy compared to the conventional methods of pothole detection.

Music is often taken as a barometer of social relations, usually in somewhat contradictory ways. Across different social and cultural contexts, music is alternately permitted, and not permitted, to not 'mean' what it 'says' often on the basis of whose sensibilities are offended. In some instances what appear to be its literal meanings will be bracketed, in others, it will be interpreted as 'directly' as possible. This is particularly concerning with any genre of music that seems to contain or express what might be considered violent speech, of which there are a significant number. A critical aspect of the cycle of moral panic, however is the extent to which music and the meanings it seems to embody are available to wide audiences, in terms of both accessibility, and the cultural literacies which facilitate a grasp of how those meanings might best be understood. In this context, the increasingly ubiquitous use of digital technologies has significant implicatio...

Fingerprinting Electronic Molecular Complexes in Liquid2016 •
Predicting the electronic framework of an organic molecule under practical conditions is essential if the molecules are to be wired in a realistic circuit. This demands a clear description of the molecular energy levels and dynamics as it adapts to the feedback from its evolving chemical environment and the surface topology. Here, we address this issue by monitoring in real-time the structural stability and intrinsic molecular resonance states of fullerene (C60)-based hybrid molecules in the presence of the solvent. Energetic levels of C60 hybrids are resolved by in situ scanning tunnelling spectroscopy with an energy resolution in the order of 0.1 eV at room-temperature. An ultra-thin organic spacer layer serves to limit contact metal-molecule energy overlap. The measured molecular conductance gap spread is statistically benchmarked against first principles electronic structure calculations and used to quantify the diversity in electronic species within a standard population of mol...
