The greasyback shrimp, Metapenaeus ensis, was studied in the Ganh Hao River, in a coastal region of the Mekong Delta in Vietnam, between February and December 2010, at six stations extending 30 km from the estuary. The results are as follows for males and females. The carapace lengths were 14.5–33.5 mm and 14.4–35.5 mm, the asymptotic carapace lengths were 35.2 and 37.3 mm, growth coefficients were 1.6 year and 1.5 year, and longevities were 1.8 and 2 years, respectively. Depending on the level of migration indices, for males and females, the total mortality coefficients were 3.7–5.0 year and 4.1–4.9 year, fishing mortality coefficients were 1.4–2.7 and 2.4–3.2 year, the exploitation rates ( E ) were 0.38–0.54 and 0.59–0.65, and the maximum exploitation rates ( max E ) were 0.4–0.70 and 0.6–0.8, respectively. The natural mortality coefficients were 2.3 year for males and 1.7 year for females, respectively. These results demonstrate that M. ensis is still underexploited ( E <...

Fishery, Population Dynamics and Stock Status of Jinga Shrimp, Metapenaeus affinis (Milne-Edwards, 1837) from Gujarat Waters of India2018 •
The life history parameters and stock status of Jinga shrimp, Metapenaeus affinis was assessed by collecting length frequency, catch and effort data for the species during January 2012 to December 2015 from the commercial trawlers operating from Veraval fish landing centres in Gujarat. Growth parameters i.e., L∞, K and t0 were estimated as 185.5 mm, 1.9 yr-1 and -0.001 yr, respectively for male and 204.75 mm, 1.7 yr-1 and -0.001 yr, respectively for the female Metapenaeus affinis. The growth performance of female was found to be higher than male shrimp. Mortality parameters i.e., Z, M and F estimated were 8.37 yr-1, 2.926 yr-1, 5.45 yr-1 for male and 6.76 yr-1, 2.61 yr-1and 4.15 yr-1 for females, respectively. Current exploitation ratio (Ecur) for the male was found to be higher than that of the female shrimp. Length at capture (LC50) for shrimp was higher than the length at maturity (LM50). Relative yield per recruit (Y/R’) model projected the Emax of 0.75 for the species, which im...
Monthly sampling data of Metapenaeus affinis was analyzed to determine the age, growth and mortality rates form January 2010 to February 2011. The asymptotic total Carapace length was estimated to be 35mm for males and 47mm for females. The growth parameter K was calculated 1.1 Y -1 for females and 1.2 Y -1 for males while C. The total mortality rate, natural mortality rate and fishing mortality rate was estimated (4.04, 1.95908 and 2.08) for males and (4.93, 1.74954 and 3.18) for females, respectively. Furthermore, the exploitation rate was 0.51 for males and 0.64 for females. Maximum age was 16-17 months and 15-16 months for females and males, respectively. According to the results, Metapenaeuss affinis growth is rapid from summer to autumn and slight from winter to spring. Natural mortality in males and females were close together but males were more vulnerable to fishing from females. A result showed M.affinin was overexploited in Hormozgan fishing grounds. Fishing effort of M.a...

Highlight The sex ratio of tiger prawns in the waters of female groceries is 1.08 times higher than that of males. The growth characteristic of male and female tiger prawns is negative allometry, but the male and female body shapes are fat. Fishing mortality, capture mortality, exploitation rate, female tiger prawns are higher than males, but total mortality and natural mortality male tiger prawns are higher than females. The male infinitive growth is longer than the female. Abstract The windu shrimp ( Penaeus monodon ) is an economically important fishery species in the waters of Tarakan. The shrimp is highly demanded for frozen seafood industry that makes its market price range attractive from Rp. 50,000 (USD 3.37) to Rp. 70,000 (USD 4.72)/kg. This can cause the species to be potentially exploited. However, due to lack of data, the exploitation status of the windu shrimp is unknown. Hence, the present study was carried out to determine the absolute growth, mortality, and explo...

This study aimed to investigate the spawning season, length at first maturity (LM50) and sex ratio of Metapenaeus affinis in the shrimp fishing grounds of Hormozgan Province, west of the Persian Gulf, Iran. Samples were taken by the swept area method and trawl net with 2 cm mesh size in the cod end from January 2010 to February 2011. Results showed that the sex ratio deviated from 1:1 and female's number were significantly higher than males. Metapenaeus affinis females had continuous spawning in all seasons but the peak spawning season was found in spring, and stage 3 of maturity was observed in all seasons. Length at maturity (LM50) for females was estimated at 27.12 mm based on carapace length. Our finding showed that LM50 of M. affinis do not change with sex ratio deviates from equal ratio.
