A new species of copepod (Siphonostomatoida: Caligidae) parasitic on the tiger shark Galeocerdo cuvier (Péron & Lesueur) from Western Australian waters2004 •
A new species of sea-louse (Caligidae, Siphonostomatoida), Caligus oculicola n. sp., is described from the eye surface of the tiger shark Galeocerdo cuvier from off the northwestern coast of Australia. This copepod is distinguished from its congeners by a combination of characters that include: (i) a bifid, dentiform process of the maxillule; (ii) a sternal furca with a box longer than wide and diverging, truncate tines; (iii) terminal spines 1 to 3 on the last segment of leg 1 exopod, each with serrate margins and an accessory process (accessory process on the spines extending beyond the tip of the spine itself); and (iv) a two-segmented exopod of leg 4 with an armature formula of I-0; III. This is the first description of a caligid copepod collected from a shark host in Western Australian waters. The host-parasite relationships between Caligus oculicola and its elasmobranch host are discussed.

The Biology and Pathology of Pseudocaligus uniartus Ho, 2004 (Copepoda: Siphonostomatoida: Caligidae) Infecting Siganids (Siganus sp) in Indonesia2013 •
Siganids are marine fish which are potentially cultured in ponds or floating net cages. In attempt to produce spawners from wild fish stock, the Caligid Pseudocaligus uniartus appeared in culture facilities causing mild to heavily damage on infected fish. The purposes of this research were to study the mode of infection, biology and pathology of P. uniartus. Egg strings were collected from ovigerous females infecting Siganus guttatus. The parasite posses two nauplius stages, one copepodid, four chalimus stages and young adult. Hatching rates reached 96% at 20 ppt, and 94% and 90% at 25 and 30 ppt, respectively. The eggs started to hatch theree hours after incubation and most eggs had hatched within seven hours. Nauplius stages were estimated for about three hours. Copepodid remained alive after two days without host and started to die within three days and all died within six days. Newly attached copepodid as well as chalimus was mainly found on posterior part of dorsal and anal fin...

Developmental stages and growth of Pseudocaligus fugu Yamaguti, 1936 (Copepoda: Siphonostomatoida: Caligidae) host-specific to Puffer2009 •
In Brazil, knowledge on copepods of the order Siphonostomatoida dates back to the late 1800s, with the earliest record concerning parasitic copepods of fish. In contrast, the first record in Brazil of a copepod associated with an unknown marine invertebrate did not appear until 1988, with further studies on this copepod group occurring only during the last 15 years. The aim of this paper is to summarize the knowledge on the diversity of the siphonostome copepods, focusing on the associates of marine invertebrates, and to add new data on the distribution of known species and on the utilization of host species. Finally, an evaluation is carried out on the results and the effort expended during this period, and some objectives are proposed for improving the knowledge of the siphonostome copepods associated with marine invertebrates in Brazil.
