A model of subtitling training in university education2021 •
The aim of the paper is to propose a model of subtitling training in the university education of future subtitlers in the study programmes French Language and Culture and German Language and Culture. The authors briefly define the tradition of training in audiovisual translation (AVT) in Slovakia (Perez, 2017; Paulínyová & Perez, 2018) compared to the international development of training in AVT (Díaz-Cintas, 2008), including the presentation of the French and German courses on audiovisual translation currently proposed at the Department of Translation Studies at Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, Slovakia. The proposed model is based on the constructivist concept emphasizing the principles of cooperation, interaction, and social learning (Mraček, 2015; Mračková Vavroušová, 2017; Kiraly, 2000), while using simulated translation (subtitling) assignments which seem to be an effective tool in the training of future subtitlers in accordance with the needs and requirements ...

Methodological Aspects of Online Forms of TeachingAim. The paper presents results of a questionnaire survey which aim was to find out English learners´ preferences of different platforms and applications to be used for home schooling. Concept. They analyse how digital didactic means were used prior to the pandemic situation and they present research results related to differences among the ways of the use of these means within different subjects teaching (natural science subjects, technically oriented subjects, languages, social science subjects, artwork subjects). Consequently, the authors deal with the methodological aspects of the use of online forms in foreign language teaching. Methodology. To find answer to such questions as which educational form, s...

Specifics of Geography Teacher Training at the Faculty of Natural Sciences Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra2018 •
The Slovak education is currently experiencing a turbulent period associated with ongoing efforts to reform the education system, under-funding of education with low teacher salaries, overworked and feminized teaching staff, low social status of a teacher in society, problems in the creation and distribution of current textbooks, insufficient interest in studying natural sciences, leaving of young people to study abroad, etc. This situation is also reflected in the training of future teachers including the geography teachers (in combination with other subjects). The aim of this study is to provide basic information on the development of future geography teacher education in Nitra, which has almost a 60-year tradition. Moreover, it characterizes the current state of this education in the context of the subject field didactics and pedagogical practice and identifies the challenges of their future preparation. Methods of text analysis, information comparison, and statistical processing...
The paper outlines the adverse consequences and challenges induced by COVID-19 pandemic for the whole world and for universities in particular. The example of Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra illustrates the difficulties and challenges caused by the pandemic in relation to the two main activities arising from the university mission-teaching and research. It presents some particular aspects of the university activities adversely affected by COVID-19 and shares the measures to minimize the resulted damages. Furthermore, it demonstrates that, despite complications induced by COVID-19, teaching, research, and international cooperation have been successfully continued.
In research focused on self-efficacy it is usually teacher-related phenomena that are studied, while the main aspects related to pupils are rather neglected, although self-efficacy itself is perceived as a belief in one’s own abilities. Evidently, this strongly influences the behavior of individuals in terms of the goal and success in mathematical problem-solving. Considering that alternative teaching methods are based on the principle of belief in one’s own ability (mainly in the case of group work), higher self-efficacy can be expected in the pupils of teachers who use predominantly the well-working pupil-centered pedagogies. A total of 1133 pupils in grade 5 from 36 schools in the Czech Republic were involved in the testing of their ability to solve mathematical problems and their mathematical self-efficacy as well. Participants were divided according to the above criteria as follows: (i) 73 from Montessori primary schools, (ii) 332 pupils educated in mathematics according to the...

History of CLIL. In: CLIL in Foreign Language Education e-textbook for foreign language teachers2015 •
The aim of this chapter is to survey the historical development of CLIL. At first it lists various concepts used for the idea of integrated teaching of content and languages and the theories upon which CLIL was built. Then it presents information about the earliest developments in CLIL, showing examples of how some initiative teachers started to teach content directly in a foreign language (bilingual/immersion programmes) and, later on, how the current form of CLIL developed. The recent history of CLIL is presented via brief data on some countries as well as via activities on European level

Design Thinking – The Method of Fostering Creative Thinking and Teamwork in Teaching Tourism Product Development2018 •
Design thinking is a method used for developing creative ideas, as well as for improving services and products. It has been applied mainly in programming, architecture, marketing and business. However, its potential has already been discovered also in education, since it helps to solve problems in innovative and creative ways that foster creative thinking. The aim of the paper is to share the possibilities of applying design thinking in tourism education, though providing a framework of the workshop that took place at Constantin the Philosopher University in Nitra in the academic year 2017/2018, as well as to present a brief summary of the participants’ views on the workshop.
