John Leonard Barr

On Friday May 14, 2021 John Leonard Barr passed at home from cancer at the age of 87. He was born March 2, 1934 in New Brighton, PA to James and Wilda Barr.

John was a Korean War veteran who served in the Air Force from 1952 to 1956 where he received training as an aircraft mechanic. He worked many years in the private sector on military drones. In 1974, he began working for civil service as a quality and assurance aircraft inspector and later as a range scheduler for White Sands Missile Range until his retirement in 2006.

John loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge and gave many years of service to fraternal organizations. His love of aircraft and flying prompted him to serve for 10 years in the Civil Air Patrol.

John is survived by his wife, Lorraine of 54 years; two brothers, Don (Linda) Barr and Ron (Mary Ann) Barr; one sister Wilda (Larry) McDaniel; one son, Jimmy (Lenora) Barr; three stepchildren, Ronnie (Helen) Shepperd, Diane (John) Wilson and Mickey Shepperd; many grand and great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Wilda Barr; in-laws, Ted and Lola Johnson; four brothers, Jim, Emerson, Chuck, and Ray Barr; two sons, Clay and Teddy Barr.

Funeral service ritual will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Alamogordo Elks Lodge, 2290 Hamilton Road with Jennifer Hyatt officiating.
