Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 pound fennel, trimmed and thinly sliced

  • 1 onion, halved and thinly sliced

  • ½ teaspoon fennel seeds

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 apple, cored and sliced with peel

  • freshly ground black pepper and fennel fronds

Directions

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add fennel, onion, and fennel seeds. Season with salt and pepper.

  2. Cook, stirring occasionally, until fennel is just tender and beginning to brown, 8 to 10 minutes. Stir in apple and cook until tender, about 5 minutes. Top with additional black pepper and, if desired, fennel fronds.
