fried eggs on a plate

You know when you see a fried egg on your plate, your meal is going to be good. There is just something about that crispy egg white combined with that runny egg yolk that makes every dish ten times better. While fried eggs are breakfast staples, they have crept onto lunch and dinner dishes over the years with great success. Seriously, have you ever had a fried egg on a dish and thought that it would be better without it? Didn’t think so.

FRIED EGG RECIPE

Fried eggs fall into that food category that works on everything. They are great on their own, the best addition to a sandwich, avocado toast, or the perfect topping to a juicy burger. Fried eggs are also great additions to grain bowls full of veggies or work on a fresh salad. Seriously, they work with everything.

Fried eggs are one of those foods that seem way more complicated to make than they actually are. Like soft-boiled eggs, scrambled and hard-boiled eggs, you can make these every day. Not only are they deceivingly simple, but they also cook up real quick. Once you get the hang of perfecting the cooking methods, you’ll want to add a fried egg to everything.

Now when it comes to cooking fried eggs, there are a few tips that you’ll want to follow. You are going to want to use a hot non-stick pan or a good seasoned cast iron skillet. Also, crack the eggs into a bowl and not into the pan. This way, you won’t end up with a broken yolk even before you’ve started cooking.

INGREDIENTS

  • Eggs – Go with fresh eggs for a vibrant yolk
  • Butter or oil – Either fat will work to cook the egg, but I would go with butter if you have a choice. Olive oil will give the eggs a nice flavor if you are looking to use oil.

HOW TO FRY EGGS

1. PREPARE

Place a non-stick skillet over medium heat and melt butter or oil.

2. PREP THE EGGS

While the pan is heating, crack the egg into a small bowl (get perfectly cracked eggs every single time with this tip!).

3. COOK THE EGGS

When the butter or oil has melted and is hot, slide the egg into the pan. Cook the egg for about 3 minutes or until the white is set. Carefully flip the egg with a spatula and let cook for 30 seconds.

FAQ

HOW DO I MAKE A PERFECT FRIED EGG WITHOUT IT STICKING TO THE PAN?

Always use a nonstick skillet. An 8-inch pan will typically fit two eggs, so you can fry them up at the same time. This one is our favorite and gives us perfectly cooked eggs! (Add link) You’ll also want to make sure you have a hot pan with a good amount of butter or oil melted down. This will make it much easier to flip your eggs.

HOW DO I GET MY FRIED EGG OVER EASY?

Everyone has a different way that they love their eggs. Some people prefer super runny yolks, while others are all about that hard yolk. If you want eggs over easy, only cook the yolk for about 10-30 seconds. For over medium, stick with 30-60 seconds, and for over hard, cook the egg for 1-2 minutes once it has flipped.

HOW DO YOU FRY AN EGG WITHOUT BREAKING THE YOLK?

We’ve all been there. You break the yolk even before the egg has left the pan. Keep the yolk intact and crack the egg in a bowl and not directly into the pan. Also, when you go to flip the egg, make sure the white is set on the outside. If you have to scrape underneath it, the egg is not ready to be flipped.

Top Tip

Be patient! You may be anxious to flip the egg before it is ready, but that just results in a broken yolk.
