A Tour Of The Most Serene Yoga Retreats In The World

There is no longer a single definition that can be applied to precisely define yoga. It has become tremendously diffuse in modern times, particularly as diverse forms of ‘modern’ yoga, like Hatha and Bikram, are becoming staples of modern exercise and wellness regimes.

What we do know is that yoga, in essence, is characterised by spiritual discipline, breathing control, stretching and posturing, all with the aim of relaxing and promoting good health. This, in part, is what has caused yoga to become so popular with a modern audience looking for ways to get healthier and achieve a better quality of life.

The increasing popularity of yoga has given rise to a number of luxurious retreats around the world that cater to the needs of first timers and well practiced yogis equally. Here, we wanted to share with you our favourite luxury retreats, hidden in some of the most idyllic locations around the globe. These retreats are truly perfect to promote wellness of the mind, the body and the spirit.

UNWIND AT ANANDA YOGA, INDIA

Seeing as the word yoga originally comes from Sanskrit, an ancient Indian language, we wanted to stay true to its heritage by selecting the first retreat on our list from the Asian sub-continent.

Located in the mountains at the foot of the Himalayas, the Ananda Spa is a place entwined in natural beauty, with a panoramic vista so perfect it could have been conjured by the brushstrokes of Claude Monet.

As well as offering a full spectrum of yogic disciplines, ranging from Pranayama to Ajapajapa, this beautiful resort also offers a 6-hole golf course, treks, nature walks, steam/sauna facilities and birdwatching.

It is also an adult-only facility, adding to the tranquility and caters to  with many other individuals frequenting the resort on their own personal wellness programmes.

For a serene, peaceful and relaxing experience in the birthplace of yoga, we couldn’t recommend the Ananda resort any higher.

BE SERENADED BY THE WAVES AT PARADIS PLAGE YOGA, MOROCCO

Located on a private beach, the ocean views offered at this yoga retreat in North Africa can only be described as breath-taking. What’s more, each of the classes take place inside a building with panelled wooden flooring and panoramic glass windows. This creates a truly immersive yogic experience that is hard to match anywhere else in the world.

There are three classes per day at , beginning at sunrise and ending at sunset. The teachers have created a structured class that embraces more modern, creative forms of yoga, but this is blended with the values of traditional yoga. As the resort claims:

The harmonization of the movement, the alignment of posture and the consciousness of breath will guide your postural practice. The awakening and arising of energy, the presence in relaxation and the concentration will open the doors of meditation and peace.

To be serenaded by the waves as your body unwinds on one of the most stunning beaches in the world is a magnificent experience. We’d love for you to have that experience as well.
