CAÑADA ROSAL

Cañada Rosal is situated in the Guadalquivir valley, in the heart of the countryside, ideal for visitors keen on walking. It has about 3300 inhabitants.
HISTORY
Cañada Rosal was founded by King Carlos III at the end of 1769, created in the wastelands of Ecija. Initially inhabited by foreign families coming from the most disparate corners of Central Europe, they were directed by Superintendent Olavide, to turn the wasteland into productive and competitive land.
In 1835, the Governing Queen, Doña María Cristina, incorporates Cañada Rosal within the main municipality of La Luisiana.
As from the sixties, Cañada Rosal began a true economic, cultural, social and political development. A group of enthusiastic and enterprising young people who created a cooperative in 1977, later went on to the creation of COENCA (Cooperativa de Convases Cañada Rosal). It is this company that changed the lives of local inhabitants by giving work to hundreds of people.
On 27 August 1986, the Council of the Government of Andalusia, approves the Decree of Segregation of Cañada Rosal from La Luisiana.
THINGS TO SEE
Parroquia de Santa Ana
The chapel was built in the twentieth century and belongs to the Archbishop of Écija. Located on Calle Santa Ana.
Callejón de Flores Pistón
A curious arched passageway located next to the Parroquia de Santa Ana lined with hanging potted plants. Located on Calle Santa Ana.
Fuente de la Plaza del Fuero de las Colonias
This tiled fountain has the municipal coat of arms of the old colonies of Cañada Rosal. Located in Plaza del Fuero.
GASTRONOMY
Dishes to try when visiting Cañada Rosal include papas con pena (boiled potatoes), migas (fried bread), sopa de pimientos y tomates (pepper and tomato soup), bacalao con tomate (cod with tomato), gazpacho de habas (broad bean soup), sopa de cocido (meat soup), guiso de arroz con gallo (rice stew with chicken) and salmorejo (cold tomato soup). Sweet treats include pestiños (honey pastries), rosquillas de anís (aniseed biscuits) and tortas de manteca (biscuits made with lard).

Celebrated in the middle of October.
LOCATION
Cañada Rosal is located 81km from Seville. To get there, take the A-4 east leaving Seville and take exit 468 towards La Luisiana/El Campillo/Cañada Rosal. Take a right turn onto the SE-9104 and the 1st exit at the roundabout continuing on the SE-9104 pasisng El Campillo until you reach Cañada Rosal.
