Zoomorphic libation vase or jug, in finely chiseled bronze with stylized motifs and in the shape of a fantastic animal (a taotié*), tripod base (animal legs), signed on the side, from China, vintage 18th 19th century ???

This jug is in good general condition, in its juice. Signed with 4 characters on the side.

Note: some small shocks, dirt (verdigris), wear and tear, look carefully at the photos.

* The taotie pattern is a stylized and symmetrical representation of an imaginary animal, borrowing some of its features from the dragon. Certain other aspects relate it to the tiger, even to the ox or the sheep. The animal is described as a ferocious creature, horned and with bulging eyes under thick eyebrows, whose half-jaw is decorated with sharp fangs. The term tao tie is sometimes rendered as “glutton”, also known for its voracity.
