    “Even when I was a boy, when I was on the water, I was happy,” says Pulitzer Prize-winning writer David Halberstam, whose books include The Best and the Brightest.

    The author at his Manhattan apartment. Though he was born in the Bronx, Halberstam lived for four years at his uncle’s house in Winsted, Connecticut.
