Richard F. Maruszewski, Jr., 71, a resident of Arnold, died on September 14, 2014 at 2:36 am.

He was born on December 10, 1942 in Milwaukee, WI, was raised in Milwaukee, and previously lived in Jamestown, NY, and currently is also a resident of Sun City Hilton Head, South Carolina.

Dick received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Marquette University and his PhD from the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. He was in NROTC while at Marquette and served 31 years in the Naval Reserves, four of those years on active duty. He retired as a Navy Captain. He formerly taught at Jamestown Community College and is a Professor Emeritus at the United States Naval Academy where he taught in the Mathematics Department for 27 years.

He was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist, where he served as president of the Church board, and he also was a member of Saint Mary’s parish in Annapolis.

He loved to read, do math, play golf, sports, and being with his children and his beloved grandson.

He is survived by three sons, Richard F. Maruszewski, III of Franklin, WI, David P. Maruszewski (Diane) of Monrovia, MD, and Adam D. Maruszewski of Widby Island, Washington; one daughter, Julia Kay Maruszewski of Arlington, VA; one sister, Karen (George) Rakowski of Simi Valley, CA; one brother, Robert Maruszewski of Toluca Lake, CA; and one grandson, David P. Maruszewski II. His wife, Mary Kay, preceded him in death in 2012.

Family and friends may visit on September 18th from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on September 19th at 11 AM at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul or masses would be appreciated.
