Easy Glazed Stovetop Carrots


A fast and easy side dish that is full of flavor! These Easy Glazed Stovetop Carrots are sautéed until just right and tossed in a sweet and fragrant glaze. With just the right amount of sweetness, these carrots are sure to please even the pickiest of eaters!

24 Carrots, not Karats

Since I could remember, carrots were never my favorite vegetable. If the carrots were not on a veggie platter with a side of ranch dressing, I did not want them. Cooked carrots were even worse to me. The texture of cooked carrots was disgusting to me.

I always felt like I was eating baby food. It wasn’t until I had a properly cooked glazed carrot that I actually started to like them. They were tender and full of rich flavors. With all of that said, my Easy Glazed Stovetop Carrots are simple to make and even better tomorrow.

Benefits of Eating Carrots

Although I still prefer carrots cold with ranch or blue cheese dressing, cooked carrots are slowly making their way onto my list of foods that I enjoy. Plus, carrots have some amazing benefits that you might not have known about.

Carrots are a good source of beta carotene, fiber, vitamin K1, biotin, potassium, and antioxidants which are all very important to our bodies.  

Carrots also come in an array of different colors including yellow, white, orange, red, and purple. They also range in type. For example, some of the various carrot types include Danvers (the typical carrot most people think of), Nantes, Imperator, Chantenay, and Ball (or Mini).

 

Easy Glazed Stovetop Carrot Ingredients

The ingredients are pretty simple in this recipe; but, let’s still walk through them to understand them. 

For this recipe you will need the following simple ingredients:

  • Large Carrots: Make sure that your carrots are cleaned, peeled, and sliced diagonally. The slices should be about ¼ of an inch in thickness. This recipe will also work with baby carrots.

  • EVOO: Good old extra virgin olive oil will work just fine for this recipe. But, other cooking oils will work as well (i.e. grapeseed oil, vegetable oil, canola oils).

  • Water: Since we are not blanching the carrots beforehand, the water helps to steam to carrots so that they are perfectly tender. You want the water to evaporate fully.

  • Butter: This just makes everything better! I suggest using salted butter, but unsalted will work as well.

  • Garlic: One tbsp of minced garlic is needed for this recipe. It adds some extra flavor to the carrots making them extra savory. 

  • Honey & Brown Sugar: I decided to use both of these sweeteners to make the glaze. The honey’s natural sweetness combined with the molasses flavor from the brown sugar is incredible. 

  • Onion Powder: I didn’t want to add actual onions to the dish. But, I really wanted the onion flavor. So, I added just a tbsp of onion powder to the glaze. 

  • Kosher Salt: The salt will help to season the carrots well while keeping the glaze at just the right sweetness level.

  • Ground Black Pepper: I put ground black pepper in pretty much all of my dishes. It’s one of my staple ingredients that always makes dishes just a little bit better. 

  • Lemon Juice: You only need a small amount of lemon juice for this recipe. If you have fresh, definitely use it. But, bottled lemon juice will work as well. 

  • Fresh Rosemary: The fresh rosemary made these carrots so fragrant and herbaceous! It definitely made the difference in the end. 

  • Fresh Parsley: I added some minced fresh parsley to this recipe for some added color and freshness. Fresh is always better, but you can use dried parsley if you do not have it.

How to Make Easy Glazed Stovetop Carrots

Now that we have gotten the ingredients out of the way, we get into actually making these simple yet delicious carrots! I’ve been going crazy with making different glazes and sauces lately. It has pretty much become an obsession.

This simple glaze on these carrots made me actually want to eat more cooked carrots for once.

The full written recipe is below, but here’s an overview.

  • Step 1: Heat the Oil. Heat a large skillet on medium-high to high heat with 2 tbsp of EVOO.

  • Step 2: Sauté the Carrots. When the oil is hot, add the sliced carrots and sauté until they are ½ to ¾ of the way cooked (about 10 minutes). Make sure to move the carrots around in the skillet every few minutes for even cooking. 

  • Step 3: Allow the Carrots to Steam. Add the water and mix. Allow the water to evaporate (about 3 - 5 minutes). 

  • Step 4: Add the Remaining Ingredients. Add all of the remaining ingredients except the parsley and toss the carrots.

  • Step 5: Reduce the Glaze. Allow the glaze to reduce for about 5 - 7 minutes or until it has a syrup-like consistency. The carrots should be tender and maintain their shape. 

  • Step 6: Taste, Garnish, and Toss. Add the minced parsley and toss. Taste and add additional salt and black pepper based on your preferences. Serve immediately or hold hot for later use. Enjoy!
