Seeds were imported from Brazil. This specie also goes by the name of “monkey fruit” due to it being a favorite food of the native howler monkey. The tree can grow up to 15 meter in height. It produces a black-purple berry, that has a purple pulp. The fruits are enjoyed by the native animals and humans alike, it is sweet with mild astringency. This is a very rare Eugenia to find in the wild. The native range of this species is S. Minas Gerais to Santa Catarina Brazil. It is a tree and grows primarily in the seasonally dry tropical biome. Seeds will be shipped in humid vermiculite.
