English Summary:

A young boy named Bazil loses his military father, who is blown up while attempting to defuse a land mine in the Western Sahara. Thirty years later, Bazil (Dany Boon) is working in a video rental shop in Paris when a stray bullet from a shoot-out in the street enters his forehead. Doctors save him but decide against removing the bullet, though it may kill him at any moment, for fear of damaging his brain further. Bazil returns to his workplace to find that he has been replaced. As he leaves, his replacement gives him a shell casing that she found from the bullet that had struck him.

Bazil, who has miming and sign language talents, becomes a homeless busker until he is taken in by a man named Slammer (Jean-Pierre Marielle) to Tire-Larigots, a shelter carved under a mountain of recycling material. Bazil is befriended by the other scavenging dwellers: Elastic Girl (Julie Ferrier), a contortionist, Mama Chow (Yolande Moreau), who feeds and mothers the crew, Remington (Omar Sy) a former ethnographer from Africa who speaks entirely in old-fashioned language clichés, Buster (Dominique Pinon), a former human cannonball, Tiny Pete (Michel Crémadès), an artist who designs moving sculptures from scavenged trash, and Calculator (Marie-Julie Baup), a young woman who measures and calculates things with a glance. Slammer himself is a former convict who miraculously survived an execution by guillotine.

French Summary:

En 1979, le jeune Bazil, âgé de neuf ans, perd son père militaire, dans l'explosion d'une mine antipersonnel au cœur du Sahara marocain. Trente ans plus tard, alors qu'il travaille dans un vidéoclub, Bazil reçoit une balle perdue dans la tête. Il survit, mais les médecins renoncent à extraire la balle de son cerveau, de peur de l'endommager plus, et il doit éviter les émotions fortes de peur de mourir.

Ayant perdu son logement et son emploi pendant son séjour à l'hôpital, Bazil est recueilli par une bande de chiffonniers qui habitent Tire-Larigots, une caverne fantastique aménagée au coeur d'une montagne de matériaux de récupération. Il y a Remington, un homme africain qui ne parle qu'avec des expressions désuètes, Calculette, qui peut tout évaluer et calculer en un clin d'œil, Fracasse, un ancien homme-canon, Placard, qui a survécu à la guillotine, la môme Caoutchouc, une contorsionniste, Petit-Pierre, qui bricole des automates et des mécanismes de toute sorte, et enfin Tambouille, la cuisinière qui a adopté toute cette tribu.

Bazil egy kissé agyament alak, ami nem is csoda, hiszen fejbe találta egy lövedék. Amikor kikerül a kórházból, összeakad néhány fura figurával, akikkel összefogva bosszút állhat két nagy fegyvergyártó vállalaton. Nem csak az őt ért lövés és következményei - elvesztette a munkáját, egyben a megélhetését - sarkallják arra, hogy revansot vegyen, hanem apja miatt is, akivel egy felrobbanó bomba végzett. Vajon milyen sikerrel hajtja végre a tervet ez a néhány lökött fazon, akik egyébként olyan marhaságokon agyalnak, mint hogy vajon belefér-e egy nő a hűtőszekrénybe; a zebrák fekete alapon fehér csíkosak-e vagy fordítva vagy hogy be lehet rúgni a palacsintától?
