The Aprilia Pegaso was an excellent dual sport that suffered the same fate as most Aprilias in the 90s/00s – it was poorly marketed and under appreciated, though it was a great bike. Aprilia developed this bike in tandem with BMW, so the latter’s F650 is mechanically almost identical. Both feature the bulletproof Rotax 650 – with 50 horsepower, this thumper was capable of 112 mph and nearly 60 miles per gallon. Aprilia added a few extras that the BMW did not receive, including upgraded brakes, upside-down forks, and interestingly enough, a 5-valve head – 3 of the valves were intake.

2000 was the last year the “Cube” version of the Aprilia Pegaso was imported to the United States. Cube signifies a generation of these bikes that ran from 1007-2004. Notice that it shares its headlight with the RS250, helping to tie in the Aprilia design language. If you’re seriously considering one of these, you need to understand two things. Firstly, it’s oriented more towards the ‘road’ side of dual-sporting, and secondly, you better be willing to wait for parts. Even if you’ve got an Aprilia dealer in your backyard, they’ll tell you that parts will have to come from Italy. Grab a Snickers.

This specific Aprilia Pegaso is in good overall shape, having done 13k miles of mostly street work. You’ll get plenty of extras for your purchase price, including a Bagster tank cover and tank bag, rear trunk, and Euro turn signals. In addition, the previous owner has impressively upgraded the charging system and installed a voltmeter above the dash – it seems he was rather sensitive about the electrics, a known weak point with this bike. Lastly, he’s thrown on some Kenda Big Blocks to amplify the off-road performance of this bike. We’re impressed with the modifications he’s made, and you’ll be able to enjoy them for pennies on the dollar.
