Bucerotiformes were formerly considered part of the Coraciiformes. There are two suborders, Upupi (containing the familiar Eurasian Hoopoe as well as the wood hoopoes and scimitarbills) and the larger Buceroti, containing the hornbills. Representatives of the order have long, downcurved bills, with elaborate casques in the case of some of the hornbills. There are no representatives of this order in the Americas.
