WWE SummerSlam 2014 match card: John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar preview

The match

John Cena defends his WWE world heavyweight championship in the main event against "Plan C", Brock Lesnar.

The players

John Cena: The WWE world heavyweight champion, he won the title at Money in the Bank in a ladder match before successfully defending it in a Fatal 4-Way at Battleground. He carries the belt(s) in open defiance of The Authority, who are willing to do anything to change that fact.

Brock Lesnar: He is the client of Paul Heyman, who laid out the strategy that ensured he would conquer the Undertaker's undefeated streak at WrestleMania back in April. He left immediately after and only returned when an opportunity opened up to challenge for the WWE title. He is a self professed "ass kicking son of a bitch" who doesn't "respect anybody" and "couldn't give two shits who I piss off throughout my entire day".

The feud

Strictly speaking, this started all the way back in 2003 when Lesnar ruled the roost and Cena was an up-and-comer searching for his identity. Brock, the biggest dog in the yard then as he appears to be now, always came out ahead.

That changed in 2012 when the two met at Extreme Rules in a highly anticipated showcase and Cena withstood a brutal beating to overcome the odds, earning a clean pinfall victory. The two went their separate ways after.

Now, circumstances have dictated the two meet again.

It started with Paul Heyman timely positioning Lesnar to take advantage of an exasperated Triple H, who has no patience for Cena's unwillingness to fall in line. Because the two were never in the same place at the same time, however, interviews were done to create this masterpiece of a hype package:

That served to give it a truly "big fight" feel.

Finally, they came together on the go home episode of Monday Night Raw, though there was no physicality. Instead, we got Lesnar and Heyman kicking off the show with a memorable promo featuring the latter spitting rhymes:

While Cena responded with an impassioned call out accusing Lesnar of suffering from a condition known as "punk bitch-itis".

Ultimately, they would square off in the main event after Brock interrupted Hulk Hogan's birthday celebration and Cena ran in to save the day:

It's almost time.

What to expect

BLOOD.

URINE.

VOMIT.

LOLCENAWINS.

Actually, to be serious, what makes this so interesting is no outcome would be a surprise and therefore every outcome will be a surprise.
