BIOGRAPHY:

Four years was all University of Calgary student-athlete Richard Bohne needed to become the greatest scorer in Canada West men’s basketball history.

A member of the Dinos from 1992-1996, Bohne tallied 2,171 career points, setting a record that stood for a dozen years and has since been surpassed just once by Saskatchewan's Andrew Spagurd, who scored 2,182 points over five years.

A native of Raymond, Alta., Bohne averaged an incredible 27.5 points in 79 Canada West regular season contests. In a span of mere weeks during the 1994-95 season, he had the two highest-scoring games in conference history: 64 points at UBC on Jan. 28, 1995; and 54 points at home against Saskatchewan. A quarter-century later, those remain the all-time top two Canada West performances.

Bohne won the Mike Moser Memorial Trophy in 1996 as the top player in CIAU men’s basketball. He was a two-time Canada West Player of the Year (1995 and 1996), four-time Canada West All-Star (First Team 1994-1996, Second Team in 1993), three-time All-Canadian (First team in 1995 and 1996, Second Team in 1994). In his first season, 1992-93, he helped the Dinos win the Canada West title for the second time in program history, and advance to the CIAU championship in Halifax, where he was named a tournament all-star.

In 1995, Bohne was a member of Canada’s bronze-medal winning team at the FISU Games. Following his time with the Dinos, he played professionally in France.

Bohne was inducted into the U of C’s Hall of Fame in 2015. He presently serves as director of community services for the Town of Raymond.
