Huey Lewis, right, and the News are set to perform Sunday night at the Cape Cod Melody Tent in Hyannis.

A quarter-century later and it's still hip to be square. Huey Lewis and the News, after releasing their first album in almost a decade last year, will perform at the Cape Cod Melody Tent in all of their quirky, pop-jazz, ballad-prone glory.

In the '80s, Huey Lewis and the News lived in the center of the pop-rock universe, racking up back-to-back chart-topping albums (“Sports” and “Fore!”) and a trio of chart-topping singles (“The Power of Love,” “Stuck With You” and “Jacob's Ladder”). Though the band has taken a few extended hiatuses in the past 20 years, it has remained iconic with featured music in cult films. “Back to the Future” includes two top-10 singles, “American Psycho” includes “Hip to Be Square” and an analytical discussion of the band, and in 2008 the band recorded the score to “Pineapple Express.”

Last year the band, which formed in 1979, returned to the studio for the first time since 2001's “Plan B” and recorded “Soulsville.” A tribute to the influential artists of Stax Records, the album features infectious covers of the likes of Otis Redding and Isaac Hayes, a refreshing change of pace for the group.

On Sunday, the band will perform selections from the new album, and will inevitably play some of the catchy gems that everyone knows it for.
