March 16, 2024 - Tonight w/ Nita's steaks. Said to be a merlot dominated blend of 85% Merlot, 10% CS, 5% CF. 50% new oak. Decanted for 2 hrs prior to dinner. Served in low low 60s in Riedel BDX glasses. Semi opaque ruby garnet. Classically styled w/a striking cigar ash & cedar nose that carries over to the palate. Lifted & balanced red fruit, mineral, herbs & expresso also in play. A perfectly resolved elegant glass of Right bank BDX! I'm more a Burg guy but love this paring w/ Nitas cast iron seared filets! 2001s can be fun! 13.5% alc.

March 7, 2024 - The wine was superb. Managed to destroy the cork however after short filtering, the wine blossomed to its full extent. med ruby with tawny brim, savoury nose with dark fruit, leather, tobacco and slight tertiary aromas of caramel and walnuts. incredible tannins and smoothness. poetry in the glass.

December 30, 2023 - Deep colour, beautiful savoury nose and a touch of leather, the palate has dark ripe berry fruit and still plenty of structure from classic tannins that give the palate a lovely shape. Fruit builds and builds as the evening goes on, dry style of tannin will always be there but this is partly why it is so refreshing and well balanced. A wonderful classic Pomerol that is currently delicious and one that I suspect will continue to age gracefully for a further 10+ years.

December 24, 2023 - Another only okay showing for this wine that I had high hopes for. Is it fully matured? It appears very dry and seems to be losing the fruit component, with concentration appearing to recede. Still lovely.

December 1, 2023 - Drinking superbly, it is my favourite Gazin vintage and it kicks a lot of more prestige right bank estates into touch. Taste profile is as per previous notes. Do give it an hour or two in the decanter to come alive.
