Coravin fun - Bordeaux (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Quite cellar stink initially, underpinned by red currant, chalky minerality, a little caramel, leather, earth, slight mushroom with time a tiny fruit lozenge quality with some dried flours, wetly dilute, juicy, fleshy tangy, autumn fruits are slight dried out and there is a coarse tannic burr across the tongue, all travels long. Nice.

Off restaurant list, presumably sourced relatively recently as the restaurant is of recent vintage itself.
Pop and pour with splash decant. Dark ruby opaque, without bricking. Nose herbal, bright, minty. Palate rounded red cherries, herbal, earthy and floral; evident pencil shavings/graphite, earthy. Still some tannins towards the finish.
Deep and still drinking very well, but perhaps more of a curiosity (birth year for several in our party) than a wine worth its tariff currently. 93 pts

A step up in concentration, this is muscular and a even a bit hard around the edges. Softens up with air. Dark fruited, tobacco notes. Good wine.

Ian’s unfashionable 80’s Bordeaux (Piccolino, Liverpool Street Stn, London): Slightly sludgy. Relatively mute on the nose. Mid velvet. No great co 0.exity or verve, but harmonious and resolved. Down from a previous bottle.Bare ***
