Jason's birthday and old Bordeaux (Newcastle, WA): Wow, what a palate, red fruit, silky, stunning fruit, length, racy and that texture. I usually never notice texture in Bordeaux, but this was special. Iconic.

This was the last (bonus) bottle after a vertical tasting with dinner. The bottle had been stored for a long time in "suspect" conditions so there was no great hope this was not vinegar. Cork was wet and in better shape than expected. After 1 hour of decanting we served the wine. It was quite drinkable, old with flat notes but we could taste some fruit but tannin was gone. For a 60+ year old wine it was an tasting of a lifetime The wine was judged to be in decline so if you have one think about consuming it now.

**Second time I have had this and this time, its just pretty with a silhouette of the long life this wine has had. Needed about 45 minutes to exhale and fill out and then the flowers started dancing off the top, inviting you in for some dried flowers, cedar chest, and a touch of coffee brewing in the back of it all. A rather frail wine with a soft but persistent and pretty linger. DRINK

Wine Workshop: Chateau Margaux (Gabriel Kreuther): I’m afraid the ‘53 almost skewed my impression of the rest of the flight. This is quite a nice wine. Darker red currants and peppery and a bit more heft to it and as a result it seemed to lack that lovely classic elegance that I saw in the first wine. So drinking nicely and certainly one I’d love to revisit again but I found myself not quite as taken.

Initially had a grand nose and was beautiful on the palate. Faded very quickly
