  • We think this wine is very good - and are happy to increase to very solid 94. The fruit is still strawberries, raspberries and cherries - you also get the the garden (rose leaves). An impressive balance - medium acidity and tannins - and clearly and even more pronounced aftertaste - we really liked the wine.

  • Had this at the Charleston off-line for Burgundy night.

This was part of the second Burgundy flight of the night, served along side the '06 Fourrier Clos St. Jacques and '05 Groffier Bonnes Mares.

The bottle had a tattered label, but no other signs of improper aging other than a wet cellar.

All of the wines were close to a pop and pour, so they were tasted slowly to allow some time to evolve in the glass. This was the oldest of the red burgundies that night, with a more opaque color with slight bricking.
Initially, the flavors were more focused on the tart fruit qualities. With time, this opened up nicely and smoothed out with raspberry, tart cherry and roses.

Another nice wine and one of my favorites of the red burgundy flight.

  • Charleston Offlineorama IV; 9/27/2018-10/1/2018 (Charleston, NC (various locations)): 3rd flight at Burg Thurs dinner - served alongside '06 Fourrier Clos St. Jacques and '05 Groffier Bonnes Mares. Paired with Tea Smoked Duck, Charleston grits, poultry glaze and plum paste. Probably my favorite of the red burg flight. The nose on this was red fruit and lots of earth. Color had quite a bit of bricking around the edge, somewhat translucent. This had a silky mouthfeel with lots of earthy notes and mature red fruit. For me it was the most delicate of the three wines, which tends to be my preference in burgundy. Very nice!

  • Charleston IV - Return of the Collectible; 9/27/2018-9/30/2018 (Charleston, SC (various locations)): First sip it was a bit musty. We were very close to a pnp with all of the burgundies tonight. Smaller pour so I didn't get to see the full evolution I don't think, but it was certainly the wine which improved the most throughout the course of the meal and I'd say was basically singing by the end (so think maybe 1-1.5 hours in glass). Very much in that vein of burgundy that I can appreciate - a certain lightness with very crisp red fruits.

  • The nose is quite subdued - but the palette you get so much fresh fruit - it is strawberries, raspberries and cherries - you also very clearly get rose leaves - like a garden - the balance is impressive - clearly a top wine that has many years back - this is solid 93 - really impressed - and happy I still have one bottle left.
