Excellent showing from a 37yo Bordeaux. Cork was soaked and crumbly, but managed to get it out in three pieces with an Ah-so. Was worried at first that the wine may be dead and had a back up on hand but first sip proved good, even if it was maybe a bit thin. Decanted for sediment which there was very little and aired in the cellar for about one hour. Then the magic happened...
Deep, robust scents of dark fruits, warm leather, and earthy notes. Layers upon layers of complex flavours and warm notes of dark fruit and tobacco. Excellent weight in the mouth showed its balance of fully-resolved tannins with lively but composed fruit. Acidity may have been in decline but in no way flabby. Good enough to stand up to beef short ribs. Excellent staying power showed no decline over a two-hour dinner and was pleasantly surprised by its performance. Another win for Pontet-Canet and well-aged Bordeaux.

Some colour evolution. Remnants of delicate red fruit with some tertiary aromas. Soft entrance and juiciness. Well balanced wine up to the final. A joy to drink. Allard Botenga

Cork was saturated and crumbly. Considering its poor condition, the wine was better than expected. Meaning, it lacked the grip and power that mature PC can have, but the color was decent and after a one-hour decant, dried cherries and tangy apricot fruit leather showed up to provide balance. Tannins still evident.

Agreeing completely with Jeremy Holmes' note.
Somewhat thin. 89 for presentation.
...and then, PLOFF, it started to show cork taint. First a little, then increasing with every sip.
Not every day I pour a Pontet Canet down the drain...
SCREW CORKS!
SCREW CAPS!
