Former CNU Assistant Jessica Weiss Named Head Field Hockey Coach at Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, Va. -- Former Christopher Newport assistant field hockey coach Jessica Weiss has been named the head coach at Randolph-Macon after spending the past seven seasons on the sidelines with the Captains.

Since 2009, Weiss served as an integral part of Carrie Moura's coaching staff at CNU. During her time in Newport News, she helped the Captains compile a 106-29 record while advancing to the NCAA Tournament five times. Along the way, the squad reached the Sweet 16 three times, including a run to the program's first-ever Final Four in 2013.

Helping oversee one of the biggest transitions in program history, Weiss helped Christopher Newport move from being an independent member of the NCAA to a competitor in the vaunted Capital Athletic Conference in 2013. Since joining the new league, the Captains have secured a pair of regular season CAC championships, including a share of the title in 2015 when the squad finished 13-4 overall, including 5-1 in conference action.

Equally impressive on a national stage, the Captains have been ranked in the NFHCA Top-20 in 75 of a possible 80 polls during Weiss' tenure. Christopher Newport climbed as high as No. 3 during the 2013 campaign and finished this past season ranked 13th in the country.

In addition to her work with the field hockey team, Weiss also served as an assistant coach with the CNU lacrosse program for four seasons. During that time, she helped the Captains claim four USA South championships and advance to the NCAA Tournament each year.

Prior to arriving at Christopher Newport, Weiss served one season as an assistant field hockey coach at Susquehanna University after spending four years competing for the Crusaders. During her time on the field, she was named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad, the Middle Atlantic Conference All-Academic Team, and the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll. She graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and a minor in Information Systems.

Weiss takes over a Randolph-Macon program that posted a 10-8 record in 2015, including a 2-5 mark in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
