San Jose, Costa Rica, December 9th, 2022. On November 28 and 29, 2022, the I/A Court H.R. held in Asuncion, Paraguay, a Course on “Conventionality Control, Inter-American System and main case-law of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.” This event was organized together with the Human Rights Department of the Supreme Court of Justice of Paraguay and the I/A Court H.R. and was inaugurated by Dr. Alberto Martínez Simón, First Vice President and Acting President of the Supreme Court of Justice of Paraguay, Dr. Julio César Arriola, Minister of Foreign Affairs and the President of the Inter-American Court, Judge Ricardo C. Pérez Manrique.

This training process was developed as part of the official visit of the President of the I/A Court H.R. to Paraguay. This activity combined 150 people in-person and 400 people virtually, among them, judges, officers of different justice administration institutions of Paraguay, and public entities related to the protection of human rights. The course was led by Ricardo C. Pérez Manrique, President of the I/A Court H.R., a lawyer of the Court’s Secretariat, and Silvia Martínez, official Defense Attorney of Argentina and Inter-American Defense Attorney.

Moreover, on December 1st, 2022, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights held in the facilities of the Honduran Training School a course entitled: “Human Rights and women’s access to justice.” This training process was attended by 35 people, among them officers of the Judiciary, Public Prosecution Service, Public Attorney’s Office, State’s Attorney Office, the National Commissioner for Human Rights, the Human Rights’ Secretary, the National Commissioner for the Prevention of Torture, Red de Abogadas Defensoras de Derechos Humanos, Centro de Estudios de la Mujer, Movimiento de Mujeres por la Paz, among other key institutions and organizations for the protection and promotion of women’s rights in Honduras.  The Course was led by the Peruvian expert, Juana María Ibañez, and a lawyer of the Court’s Secretariat.

These activities were part of the Project entitled: “Institutional Strengthening of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights for the optimization of capacities” (Phase II) developed by the I/A Court H.R. thanks to the generous contribution of the Swedish International Cooperation Agency (SIDA).
