Floyd Central quarterback Matt Weimer threw for 237 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Providence to earn him the Courier-Journal Southern Indiana Athlete of the Week Award.

Last week's other nominees were Providence volleyball's Marissa Hornung, New Albany football's Darquan Richardson and Jeffersonville football's Shaun Wimberly.

New Metro Louisville and Southern Indiana Athlete of the Week Award nominees will be posted early each week with the voting ending at 5 p.m. Sunday. Winners and a guest will be invited to this summer's Courier-Journal Sports Awards, where we'll honor the very best in high school athletics with a special celebrity guest. Follow along here for more on the Courier-Journal Sports Awards.

You can nominate Metro Louisville athletes by emailing Jason Frakes at jfrakes@courier-journal.com and Southern Indiana athletes by emailing Kyle Williams at kjwilliams@courier-journal.com. Fans can vote as often as they'd like, and sharing their votes on social media counts as a vote, too.
