About the Clarion NX509
Clarion's NX509 navigation receiver gives you DVD playback, along with a host of built-in and optional features. Designed for your double-sized dash opening, the NX509 gives you a big 7" touchscreen, letting you control your in-dash entertainment system with a tap of your finger.
Built-in GPS
Rely on the NX509 to guide you to your next destination. You can read navigation maps easily on the NX509's large screen, and you'll hear street names called out before your next turn. You can search the 12 million points of interest to find nearby attractions, and you can dial in a 3D view to help you navigate city streets or changes in elevation.
Killer sound
BeatEQ gives you three preset tone curves, all of which you can modify with the 3-band parametric equalizer. Magna Bass EX lets you dial in big bass when you want it, and BBE MP reproduces the warmth, nuance and harmonics that might be missing from your digital music files. Clarion includes a handy remote for on-the-fly changes.
The NX509's powerful internal amp belts out your music with authority, while a premium digital-to-analog converter makes all your tunes sparkle. Built-in low- and high-pass filters let you set crossover points and send your speakers the frequencies they were designed to handle. The subwoofer volume control lets you dial in just the right amount of bass.
Movie theater on wheels
Enjoy watching DVDs up front while you're parked, or hook up a video screen in the back so the kids can watch movies as you drive. In 2-Zone mode, they can watch a DVD in back while you play your favorite driving music up front.
iPod® controls and more
Connect your iPod to the rear USB slot, and you'll get touchscreen control over your tunes no adapter required. Add an optional adapter, and you can play videos from your iPod on the 7" screen.
The NX509 plays your store-bought and recordable CDs and DVDs, including those you've loaded with MP3, WMA, and AAC files. You'll also find an audio/video input for video games or other sources.
Your options don't end there add an optional satellite radio tuner and get the nearly endless variety of entertainment available. Or add Bluetooth® for safer hands-free calling and high-speed music streaming. Three sets of preamp outputs let you add amps and subs to the mix.

Display Features
2-DIN Chassis: The Clarion NX509 has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as "Double DIN" or size DD), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. Unlike many in-dash monitors, there is no hideaway box; all the inputs and outputs are included within the unit's chassis. The unit is ISO-mounted using factory brackets, please check the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector to verify fit with your vehicle.
7" Touch Panel TFT Display: The Clarion NX509 has an integrated 7" TFT wide screen display with touch panel controls. The display provides a high-resolution video monitor for watching your DVD videos. The screen has a resolution of 1440 x 234 (336,960 total pixels).
Parking Brake Detection: To prevent the displaying of video while the vehicle is in motion, the bright green wire in the supplied 18-pin harness must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. While the vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view all of the other displays and menus.
Audio Section
24-bit D/A Converter: The unit's 24-bit D/A converter re-quantizes the 16-bit audio signals from CDs and DVDs as 24-bit data while maintaining the low distortion and high linearity of a 1-bit D/A converter. This allows an expanded dynamic range and clearer reproduction of subtle nuances, for a richer sound when viewing DVDs or listening to CDs.
CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the NX509 are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the NX509 are as follows:
- CEA2006 Specs: 20 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 14.4 volts into 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
- Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 watts total)
Beat EQ: The NX509 offers the five EQ settings:
- BEQ 1: emphasizes bass
- BEQ 2: emphasizes bass and treble, reduces midrange
- BEQ 3: emphasizes bass and treble to a greater degree than BEQ 2, reduces midrange
- Custom: independently adjust bass, treble, and midrange; center frequencies are adjustable for bass (50 Hz, 100 Hz, and 200 Hz), midrange (500 Hz, 1 kHz, and 2 kHz), and treble (5 kHz, 10 kHz, and 15 kHz)
- Off: flat
BBE MP: BBE MP restores harmonics lost when music is compressed. BBE MP works only with the USB input, the effect can be adjusted (low, mid, or high) or turned off.
Magna Bass: Turn the Magna Bass feature on to emphasize the deep bass and create a more dynamic sound quality.
Crossover:
- High Pass: the high pass crossover effects the front and rear preamp outputs and the speaker level outputs; the crossover points are 60 Hz, 90 Hz, 120 Hz, and Through (full range)
- Low Pass: the low pass crossover effects the subwoofer preamp output; the crossover points are 60 Hz, 90 Hz, 120 Hz, and Through (full range)

The NX509 provides map coverage of the 50 United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. The integrated navigation software provides turn-by-turn visual and voice assistance to direct you to your selected destination. The built-in software quickly calculates step-by-step directions to any destination available on the included navigation map.
GPS (Global Position System): The navigation software uses GPS satellites, and a digital roadway map database to calculate and display your location and movement. The included GPS antenna receives signals from the satellites orbiting the earth and determines your position to within meters. The GPS antenna has an 8' cable attached.
Vehicle Positioning: The built-in navigation software's computer considers vehicle speed an heading changes, together with longitude and latitude information, to accurately determine vehicle heading and position on a digital map. Signal from GPS satellites are used to determine the vehicle location. Three (good) or four (best) satellites must be receive to accurately determine location.

- Address: input a specific address by house number, street, and city
- Intersection: enter two cross streets and route to the intersection
- City: enter the city and route to the city center
- POI (Point-of Interest): select a destination or waypoint from a database of restaurants, gas stations, hotels, etc; search near your current position, near your destination, along your route, near a specific address, or near the cursor you place on the map; this unit provides 12-million points-of-interests
- Coordinates: route to a destination by directly inputting latitude and longitude
- Favorites: select from your list of programmed favorites
- History: choose a previous destination (automatically saved in memory)
- Cursor: scroll across the map and set the cursor position as a destination or a way point

In 2D mode you can choose to orient the map showing North at the top of the screen, or show the direction in which you are traveling at the top.
