Overview: A perfect complement to the Marantz AV8003 preamplifier/processor, the matching Marantz MM8003 eight channel power amplifier features a massive toroidal main power transformer that provides high current, low impedance capability along with cooler-running reliability. Equipped with both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA input jacks, the MM8003 also features audiophile grade gold plated speaker connectors. With 140 watts per channel output, the MM8003's eight channel configuration can power a complete 7.1 channel speaker system, including a passive in-wall subwoofer. The stylish chassis features internal copper plating for maximum signal integrity, and the elegant front panel smartly matches that of the companion Marantz AV8003 preamplifier/processor (642AV8003, sold separately). Remote control input and output jacks allow external component control along with output channel relay on/off and slow start to power-on mode. Power, precision and audio purity are the hallmarks of the reference class MM8003, making it an ideal power amplifier for virtually any deluxe home theater speaker system.

Audio Features

Current Feedback Discrete Power Amplifier: The MM8003 features in all 8 channels the current feedback type of power amplifier, which uses the complementary push-pull circuitry. This improves the amplifiers operating stability and enables it to achieve high-density, high-speed sound reproduction across a wide sound range. In the rear section the power amplifier is a current/voltage conversion amplifier unit that employs a Wilson current mirror circuit for amplifying sound up to the treble range at low distortion levels.

Instantaneous Current Supply: In the rear section of the power amplifier is the LAPT (high-performance power transistor) which improves the amplifier's instantaneous current supply capability. Copper bus bars are featured in the unit that supplies the power to each channel. The power supply unit has a large toroidal transformer that delivers low levels of noise and leakage flux thanks to its internal structural features such as its laminated core, silicon steel-plated core ring and the use of its shielded casing.

Highly Efficient Heat Dissipation: A chimney-type heat sink and extremely quiet cooling fan deal with the heat that is discharged from the 8-channel amplifier to a high degree of efficiency. A high-precision temperature sensor IC is used to adjust the rotational speed of the cooling fan in response to the changes in the amount of heat generated by the amplifier.

Copper Chassis: The amplifier's chassis is copper-plated to protect the analog audio circuitry from high-frequency noise. This is an important technological aspect for reproducing sound without compromising the delicately nuanced sound fields of your music.

Audiophile Audio capacitors: Top of the line audio capacitors, film capacitors and other high-quality components are used to achieve a high-sound quality design.

8-Channel Surround Sound: The MM8003 features 8-channels (Front Left, Front Right, Center, Surround Left, Surround Back, Surround Back Left, Surround Back Right, and Subwoofer) for up to 7.1- channel surround sound listening. The MM8003 is rated at 140 Watts RMS x 8-channel in 8-ohms or 170 Watts RMS x 8-channel in 6-ohms.

Bi-Amplification: A bi-amp connection is possible with speakers that have two set of inputs by combining the Front  and Surround Back speaker connections of the amplifier. This allows you to drive the treble and bass units with separate channels amps, which enable better sound quality. The surround back channels of the preamplifier (AV8003) will need to be turned off to bi-amp your front speakers.

Multi-Zone Operation: The Marantz MM8003 8-Channel amplifier can be configured for multi-zone operation. The amplifier can be configured to a operate a 5.1-channel surround sound speaker system in your main room and a 2-channel speaker system in your secondary room. The MM8003 can also be configured to operate four independent 2-channel zones for music listening in four different rooms of your house by combining the following channels.

• Main Zone: Front Left (CH 1) and Front Right (CH 2)
• Zone A: Surround Left (CH 3) and Surround Right (CH 4)
• Zone B: Surround Back Left (CH 5) and Surround Back Right (CH 6)
• Zone C: Center Channel (CH 7) and Subwoofer (CH8)

Connections

Speakers: The 8 pair of speaker outputs are binding posts. They are not 5-way posts, but will accept single banana plugs and pin connectors up, and bare wire. The MM8003 can accommodate 6 to 8 ohm speakers.

Unbalanced and Balanced Inputs: The amplifier features a single unbalanced gold-plated RCA input and single balanced XLR input for each channel. Each of the amplifier's channels feature an Unbalanced/Balanced switch on the rear panel of the unit.

Flasher In: This 3.5mm input is used to control the amplifier from various rooms using a key-pad or other device.

DC Control Output: This 3.5mm output is used to control external components in tandem with the power on/off operation of this amplifier.

DC Control Input: This 3.5mm input allows the amplifier's power on or standby mode to be select in tandem with the power on/off operation of the component that has been connected to this connector via its DC Control output connector.

Remote Control: These RCA input/output connectors allow you to connect the MM8003 to the Marantz AV8003 for control purposes.

AC Outlet: The amplifier features an unswitched, 2-prong, AC outlet (1.24A/150W) on the rear panel of the unit for plugging in an external AV component.
