MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 17, 2007--The American Heart Association has named Pamela Knous, SUPERVALU executive vice president and chief financial officer, campaign chair for the 2008 Twin Cities Go Red For Women campaign. Knous will lead the charge to raise funds throughout the community to support local cardiovascular research and educational programs designed to drive home the message that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of American women and to inspire women to commit to a heart-healthy lifestyle.

"As the chief financial officer of SUPERVALU, a Fortune 100 company, Pam Knous is a demonstrated leader," says Kay Ulwelling, Twin Cities Go Red For Women director. "Pam's commitment to fostering corporate philanthropy and wellness and her success in reaching our female audience will help bring Go Red For Women to new heights."

The Go Red For Women Campaign strives to bring attention to heart disease, which kills over 480,000 women a year, about one per minute. Yet only 13 percent of women view heart disease as a health threat, according to goredforwomen.org. More than $35 million has been raised nationally by Go Red For Women; $15 million of that came from community-based events. Over the past four years, the Twin Cities campaign has raised nearly $1 million.

"Go Red For Women celebrates the energy, passion and power women have to band together and wipe out heart disease. I'm honored to support this important cause, which impacts mothers, sisters, neighbors, friends and women in all walks of life," says Knous. "I'm also pleased to announce SUPERVALU's contribution of $50,000 to help support this year's campaign. As a company whose primary customers are women, SUPERVALU is committed to helping educate women about heart disease and to supporting their efforts to lead heart-healthy lifestyles."

Knous has been with SUPERVALU since 1997 and oversees finance, information technology and investor relations for the grocery retailer. Previously she held positions as executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer of The Vons Companies Inc. and was a partner in the Los Angeles office of KPMG Peat Marwick. She holds a bachelor of arts degree in mathematics and a bachelor of science degree in business administration from the University of Arizona. She attended Carlton College in Northfield, Minn. from 1972 to 1974 and also serves as a member of the board of directors of Tennant Company. She is a native of Minnesota.
