'I want to know what happened to my wife': Road Trip actress and plus-size model dies at 36 after routine knee surgery

Actress and plus-size model Mia Amber Davis has died suddenly following routine knee surgery.

Miss Davis, 36, who was best-known for her role in the film Road Trip,  collapsed the morning after the outpatients procedure at a Los Angeles hospital.

Now her distraught husband, comedian Mike Yard, is demanding to know what happened, and why his otherwise healthy wife died after only a minor operation.

He told Radar: 'They are going to have to have an autopsy into the exact cause of her death. The doctors think it might have been a blood clot.'

Miss Davis, who was also a television producer and outspoken advocate for curvy women, had the surgery on Monday morning to correct an old basketball injury.

Mr Yard was at the couple's house in New York when his wife died, but said he had spoken to her the morning before the operation and she sounded happy and normal.

He told Radar: 'When she got home she complained that she was feeling dizzy and sick.

'She was taken to hospital the following morning before she passed away; her cousin called me in New York and I could not believe the news.'

Miss Davis was pronounced dead shortly after she was brought into the Kaiser Permanente Hospital on Tuesday morning, a spokesman for Los Angeles Coroner's Office told MailOnline.

She did not have the knee operation there, and doctors are still trying to find out where the surgery took place. A autopsy will be performed either tomorrow or Friday.

Her husband told TMZ: 'I want to know what happened to my wife'.

Miss Davis, who stood at six-feet tall and was reported to weigh 300lbs, worked as a television producer before getting a cameo role in the film Road Trip as Rhonda, the heavyset girl who seduces Kyle, played by DJ Qualls.

She went to land a plus-size modelling contract, and this year became the creative editor for Plus Model magazine.

Her career was going from strength to strength, and on May 7 she wrote on her Twitter page: 'Excited about the future.'

Miss Davis's agent, Anthony Higgins, told MailOnline Miss Davis was completely healthy and seemed fine the day before the operation.

He described her as 'an amazing person' and said the other models were all distraught following her death.

Her husband told Radar: 'Mia was a wonderful person. She used to give her food away to the homeless after I took her to a restaurant.

'She did a lot to promote plus-size women through her work, and she will be missed by a lot of people. I do not know what I am going to do without her.'

Two years ago, Miss Davis appeared on CNN to discuss obesity in America.

She told host Campbell Brown: 'Sizeism is the last acceptable prejudice.. We're targets, but yet we're invisible everywhere else.

'The media doesn't showcase overweight people, overweight women are not seen in Hollywood. It's like, why are we being targets but we're invisible everywhere else?'

Her family are due to release a statement after the results of the autopsy.
