Terrence Howard 'can't afford ex Michelle Ghent's $500k spousal support due to $1.4m tax debt'... as reports swirl he's expecting a baby with third wife Miranda

After being accused earlier this month by ex-wife Michelle Ghent of hiding his earnings in order to stiff her out of spousal support, Terrence Howard has come back swinging.

According to TMZ, the reason the actor is unable to fork out the half a million dollars he owes his ex in back payments is due to the almost $1.4 million he is in debt.

The 45-year-old is said to owe $1.2 million in federal taxes and an additional $156,000 in California state taxes, which is well and truly tapping him out, having previously admitting to making just $5,878 per month, with first wife Lori McCommas getting the majority of his pay cheque.

The baby will be the first for Miranda and her husband's fourth - the star having daughters Aubrey and Heaven and son Hunter with McCommas, whom he was married to from 1989 until 2003 and then again from 2005 until 2007.

Terrence is also a grandfather at the ripe old age of 45, with oldest daughter Aubrey welcoming her first child with her husband in December 2012.

With his whopping back taxes and now a baby on the way, it's little wonder the Hustle & Flow star says that $2,000 was all he could afford to give Ghent in spousal support this month.

He said, she said: While the 45-year-old insists he only pockets $5,878 per month after paying out spousal support to first wife Lori McCommas, second wife Michelle Ghent - seen here in January 2011 - claims he actually earned $1.3 million last year alone

Court documents previously obtained by TMZ reveal that Michelle claims Terrence told her last year that he fabricated his debt to McCommas and told her point blank: 'I am not gonna give you one cent.'

Ghent is claiming her ex actually made $1.3 million last year alone and has lucrative work lined up for the next two years.

The couple were married for three years from 2010 - although they filed for divorce after one year - before marrying his current wife Miranda in 2013.

What's the truth? Terrence has claimed he can't pay because he's only bringing in about $5,878 a month and his first wife Lori McMasters (pictured with him in 2005) gets most of his earnings

What's the truth? The Oscar-nominee previously revealed that first wife Lori McCommas - seen here in 2005 - with whom he has three children, gets most of his earnings, having been married from 1989 till 2003 and again from 2005 until 2007

The couple had known each other just one month before tying the knot.

While the Crash actor has no shortage of work - he has starred in numerous movies including The Butler, Iron Man and Their Eyes Were Watching God - he previously insisted he's cash-poor because his first wife gets dibs on his salary.

As reported by the New York Daily News, once McCommas' expenses are covered, he alleges she cuts him a cheque, leaving him with just $5,878 a month.

And baby makes four! Terrence is already a father-of-three - daughters Aubrey and Heaven and son Hunter, seen here in 2008 - from his first marriage, while he is also a grandfather, his oldest daughter having welcomed a child with her husband in December 2012

The actor provided these embarrassing financial details when he requested a judge to throw out the settlement with Ghent.

Additionally, the actor is claiming Ghent extorted and blackmailed him into signing the spousal support agreement.

Their short-lived marriage was extremely contentious, with Ghent claiming the six-foot actor 'sucker punched' and 'kicked her'.
