American Cha-Cha and Rumba

Welcome to Technique! Every week this semester we will be using this area to answer questions you guys have asked and to bring out some extra tips for the dances we’ve covered!

We’ll be reviewing both dances at 8:30PM on Thursday night! Join the Zoom review here and Technique on Sundays!

If you have any questions, feel free to contact either Mimi Cai at cai.697@osu.edu or Jackson Burkholder at burkholder.152@osu.edu and we will be sure to discuss your questions with Dana.

Let’s DancE!

Swivel Turn

The three steps we’ll focus on are turns of varying degrees.

First is a swivel turn, which rotates a 1/4 turn in rumba and Cha-Cha.

Switch Turn

Each turn in a Switch Turn rotates only 1/2 of a rotation.

Focus on keeping feet turned out and hips open throughout the step.

Spiral turn

Spiral Turns rotate either 3/4 or 1/4 of a rotation.

Turn Combination

Here we combine the three steps above into one fluid combination.

That’s it for our lesson! If you want to learn more, join us at our meetings and send us any questions you might have! Thank you to Jackson, Mimi, and Dana for our lessons this week!
