Who needs traditional dishware when there are edible versions that you can munch along with your favorite snacks, desserts, and drinks? Instead of doing the dishes after a meal, simply eat the evidence!
According to Laughing Squid, the Italian coffee brand called Lavazza has a new innovation for espresso drinkers everywhere. It's not a new brewing device or a milk frother. In fact, this invention is simply an espresso cup. What's so special about this particular espresso cup? It's actually a cookie.
Venezuelan designer Enrique Luis Sardi created Lavazza's cookie cup. The cup-shaped cookie looks exactly like a typical espresso cup. While a cookie-cup alone may have been leaky, Sardi added a layer of sugar icing around the inside for insulation. Espresso drinkers can sip their morning brew and then eat the cookie for dessert.
Edible espresso cups aren't the only way to enjoy dishware creations made from food. Foodbeast reports that a French design company, Miit, came up with an digestible version of a fondue pot, and this one is easy to recreate at home. Simply hollow out the inside of a muffin, fill it with melted chocolate, and voilà! You've got a makeshift fondue pot ready for dipping strawberries.
Lifehacker also has a trick for making edible dishes at home. Mold cookie dough over the bottom of a muffin tin and bake the "cookies" with the muffin tin upside-down. The result is a bowl made out of a cookie, perfect for filling with a scoop of ice cream, pudding, or fruit.
Looking for some savory "dishware" instead? Trusty bacon shows its versatility once again as it can be morphed into a crunchy bowl or even a swizzle stick to put in a cocktail. Layering pieces of bacon over the bottom of a muffin tin will create the same cookie bowl effect when baked in the oven. In his cookbook Bite by Bite, Peter Callahan makes miniature bacon bowls, which he calls "Bacon Cups," and fills them with baked beans for an adorable appetizer. Larger bacon bowls can be achieved with regular-sized muffin tins.
