Frontier Airlines chairman Sam Addoms is retiring from the company’s board of directors.

Addoms, 67, will leave the board at the end of his term, which expires at the company’s annual meeting Sept. 6, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing by Frontier.

Addoms has been chairman since 2001 and was previously chief executive. He retired as chief executive in 2002 after seven years in the role, turning the reins over to current chief executive Jeff Potter.

Addoms was executive vice president, treasurer and director during Frontier’s early development in 1993. Before joining Frontier, Addoms was a banking executive and then worked for meatpacking company Monfort Inc., where he became president. He also worked as a consultant for startup companies.

Addoms “enjoys his life outside of the industry a lot and has been involved in a lot of civic duties and wants to focus more time on that,” said Frontier spokesman Joe Hodas.
