The Los Angeles Lakers signed veteran forward Jay Vincent Sunday.

The 6-foot 7-inch Vincent was waived 10 days ago by Philadelphia, where he averaged 15 minutes, 7.3 points and 2.2 rebounds in 17 games.A nine-year veteran, Vincent was a starter as a sophomore on the 1979 Michigan State NCAA championship team that also included Magic Johnson. As a junior and senior, he won the Big Ten scoring title with averages of 21.6 and 22.6.

He was drafted in the second round, the 24th pick overall, by the Dallas Mavericks and was a unanimous choice for the all-rookie team, averaging 21.4 points, his career-best. Vincent has also played for Washington, Denver and San Antonio.

The Lakers had room on their roster after placing rookie Mel McCants on the injured list.
