| Home Page | Acanthocereus is a small genus of shrubby cactus. They can be found from South Texas to Venezuela, on the Atlantic coast of Central America. The name Acanthocereus comes from the Greek for 'spine', and the Latine for 'candle'. Because of their distribution, their resistance to cold varies widely depending on the species, and clone.
The genus Monvillea is a synonym of Acanthocereus.
