Origin: Southern Peru, northern Chile

Type: Columnar cactus, branching at the base, up to 13.3 feet tall (4 m.)

Stem: 2.4 to 4 inches wide (6 to 10 cm.),, greyish-green

Ribs: 15 to 22 ribs

Central spines: 6 to 8, up to 2.4 inches long (6 cm.), brownish

Radial spines: Up to 20, 0.4 to 0.6 inches long (10 to 15 mm.), Long grayish yellow wool
