Cartier Martin, who had a player option worth $1.3 million, has opted into his final year according to RealGM's Shams Charania. It was a decision many expected, after a disappointing 2015 season that saw Martin average 1.6 points and 0.9 rebounds in 8.6 minutes per game, whilst shooting .283/.182/.000 in 23 contests. Originally brought in for his shooting prowess, the 30 year-old struggled to crack Stan Van Gundy's rotation, and was buried on the bench behind Caron Butler, Tayshaun Prince and Kyle Singler.
Over the course of his career, he has shot 37.2 percent from deep, and although he has come off his worst season as a pro, there is hope the Texas-native can translate it into a strong 2016 performance. Cartier Martin is the currently the only small forward on Detroit's roster signed through next season, but expect the position to be bolstered through the draft and free agency.
Caron Butler ($4.5M) and Shawne Williams ($1.3M), who both have team options for next season, should also know their fate before the end of the month.
