David Fincher has found the lead for his next Netflix series Mindhunter.

It will be none other than Holt McCallany, who is known for roles in Lights Out and Blue Bloods.

The actor is playing FBI agent Bill Tench, who alongside fellow FBI investigator Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) interviews serial killers to solve cases, reports Deadline.

It's not the first time McCallany has worked with Fincher, having previously appeared in Fight Club and Alien 3.

Anna Torv also stars as a psychologist in the series, which is set in 1979.

Mindhunter is based on 1995's Mindhunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit by John Douglas and Mark Olshaker.

The non-fiction book centred on special agent John Douglas, who during his 25-year career with the Investigative Support Unit pursued some of the most notorious and sadistic serial killers and rapists.

Fincher and Charlize Theron are executive producers on the TV adaptation.
