John spent his early years living in Taiwan farming and was introduced by a mutual friend to a beautiful young lady living in America. For two years they wrote romantic letters communicating and married in Taiwan in 1984. John moved to USA in 1985 and they ran a local Chinese restaurant for many years. Traveling back to Taiwan to visit with his family was an annual occurrence. He also enjoyed watching television, experiencing cuisine from different cultures, and spending time with family.
He is survived by his wife, Tina; and her children, David Phan (Mei Ma), Jenny Wu (Tommy), Robert Phan (Kim Lin); step grandchildren, Tiffany and Jennifer Phan, Bryan and Maggie Wu, Alex and Emily Phan; brothers, Liu Yang Po, Liu Wen Siu, Liu Wen Da all of Taiwan; sister, Lui Zun Sung of Taiwan; brothers in law, Tony Tran (Le) of Alexandria, VA, Quan Tran (Jing) of Evansville, IN, Nike Tran (Yan) of Alexandria, VA, Dan Chan (Lilian) of Jacksonville, FL, Jimmy Chan (Tammy) of Diamond Bar, CA; sisters in law, Hoa Hoang (Ky) of Louisville, KY, Quyen Quach (Binh An) of San Ramon, CA, Khang Lam of Los Angeles CA, Kamie Pham (Bryan) of Oakland, CA, and Anne Chong (John) of Evansville, IN.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Alexander East Chapel with funeral service to follow at 11:00 am. Final resting place will be at Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery.
