It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of our mother, Georgina “Marian” Joan Hogue. Marian was born on January 20, 1936 in Sidney, BC to her loving parents, John George Thomson and Mary Pearse.
Marian was the youngest of 4 siblings, Robert, Margaret and Kathleen, all pre-deceased. The Thomson’s were early pioneers of the Saanich Peninsula.
Marian was married to Arthur Hogue on Dec 28, 1957. Arthur was a member of the RCAF and they began their life together in the PMQ’s on LuLu Island, BC. Together they had two daughters, Denise and Michelle. They relocated to Powell River, BC in the spring of 1965 when Arthur commenced work with McMillian Bloedel.
Marian resumed her teaching career and went on to earn her Bachelor of Education in 2000 through UBC and along the way made many lifelong friends. After a career spanning 27 years teaching at James Thomson Elementary in Powell River, Marian retired and moved to Vancouver to be closer to her daughters and their families. Over the years she had the bug of travelling and together with her friends and colleagues travelled all over Europe, Australia, and Africa. If she was not travelling, she was planning the next adventure, visiting friends, travelling to Chilliwack or Vancouver Island to visit extended family. She was a busy and involved independent woman.
Marian always put her family first and appreciated her grandchildren, MacKenzie, Connor, Morgan and Carter. Her relationships with each grandchild was individual and special in its own right.
Marian is survived by her daughters, Denise (Wayne), Michelle (Mark) and their children.
A Celebration of Life will take place in the Spring of 2024.
A special thanks to The Terraces on 7th; Comfort Keepers, 3 Bridges Community Health, Dr. Conrad Rusnak, the Home Vive Program and the Vancouver Hospice Society – together they all formed a team of assistance to Marian and her family, in her later days. Marian’s daughters and family are forever grateful for their kind words, warmth and guidance.
In lieu of flowers, please donate the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
