Josef Martinez called into Venezuelan national team camp

Pray that it’s smooth sailing.

Atlanta United star striker Josef Martinez has been called up once again by Venezuela for the international break starting this week, the club announced today.

Martinez will only compete with Venezuela for one friendly match against Basque Country, a non-FIFA affiliated national team, on Friday, October 12. This is similar to the last international break for Martinez, where he only played in Venezuela’s first of two matches on a Friday night. However, instead of playing in Miami like he did last month, this international trip takes the Venezuelans to northern Spain—Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain to be exact—for its friendly with Basque Country.

Martinez, 25, has broken multiple MLS records this season, including the league’s single-season record for goals that he broke against Orlando City SC on Aug. 24. Overall in 2018, he’s scored 30 goals in 32 games and leads the league’s Golden Boot race by nine with just two games to go. With the Venezuelan National Team, Martinez has 43 career appearances and has scored nine goals.
